Fusion handle: specs, materials and weights

Updated recently

The handle is the central part of the Fusion staff system, with a connector at each end for attaching the two end tubes. Dragon and contact staffs use the same parts; the spin staff uses a thinner handle.

Compression lock

Each handle connector inserts into an end tube. Push the tube over the O-ring on the connector before tightening. Twisting expands the connector's rubber elements, forming a compression lock that holds the end firmly and prevents rattling and movement.

The connector has rubber elements at two locations with distinct functions:

Location Part and function
Deeper inside the end tube Expanding rubber elements form the compression lock when tightened.
Near the final join An O-ring prevents metal-on-metal contact and rattling. The tube must pass over it before tightening.

Ultra hubs use exactly the same connector arrangement and insertion/tightening sequence.

To assemble, push each end tube over its connector's O-ring until the handle and end meet flush at the join, then twist until tight. Both handle-to-end joins should be flush. Jason's instruction is “twist till tight”; no numerical torque or turn count has been specified.

Specifications

Spec Value
Handle length 400mm (contact/dragon), 300mm (spin)
Inside diameter 19.1mm
Outside diameter 22mm
OD with grip 25mm

Variants

Current F-Grip weights: Jason confirmed 280g aluminium and 225g carbon fibre for the 400mm contact/dragon handles. These supersede the conflicting earlier F-Grip figures. Silicone and EPDM measurements below remain earlier data awaiting confirmation. See Source: Fusion Clarifications — 7 September 2026 and Fusion Weight Reference.

Material F-Grip (confirmed) EPDM (earlier data) Silicone (earlier data)
Aluminium 280g 203g 213g
Carbon Fibre 225g ~190g ~210g

The spin handle (300mm) is aluminium, F-Grip only, and weighs 215g, confirmed by Jason. It is not offered with silicone or EPDM grip.

A carbon-fibre handle can be paired with Fire ends, but the Fire-end tubes themselves are always aluminium. Handle material does not describe the material of the entire fire staff. See Fire Ends and Source: Fusion Clarifications — 7 September 2026.

Diameter & feel

The contact/dragon handle and the spin handle use different tube diameters, which changes how they handle:

Handle Tube OD OD with grip Best for
Carbon Fibre / Aluminium (Contact/Dragon) 22mm ~25mm Body rolls — larger diameter
Spin 19mm ~22mm Spinning in the hand — thinner, easier to hold

The Specifications table above (19.1mm ID / 22mm OD / 25mm OD with grip) describes the contact/dragon handle. The grip adds roughly 3mm to the outside diameter.

On spin staffs, grip is fitted only to the handle. Its approximately 22mm gripped diameter matches the bare end tubes. Contact and dragon staffs have grip over most of their length, giving users a larger gripped surface for body rolls. See Fusion Grips for coverage and Tubing standard for the unresolved nominal/exact tube dimensions.

Compatibility with gripped ends

A spin handle will physically connect to contact/dragon ends, but the combination is not recommended: the gripped spin handle is approximately 22mm OD and the gripped contact/dragon ends are approximately 25mm OD. The resulting diameter mismatch at the joins makes these unsuitable as direct substitutes in that configuration.

Grip options

Contact/dragon handles can be ordered with one of three grip options. The spin handle comes with F-Grip only:

  • F-Grip Tube — natural rubber, durable; complete 400mm handle weight is 280g aluminium or 225g carbon fibre
  • Silicone — clear; see the earlier measurements above
  • EPDM — best for sweaty hands; see the earlier measurements above
