Spin Staff (Traditional Staff Spinning)

This is the classic style of staff manipulation.
The staff is mostly kept in your hands and spun using your grip, wrist, and arm movements.

Key features:

  • Hands stay in control most of the time

  • Fast spins, rolls, and tosses

  • Strong focus on timing and coordination

  • Often more dynamic and high-energy visually

Think: martial arts flow, big spins, and propeller-style moves.

Contact Staff

Contact staff includes some of the spinning above plus movements where the staff rolls and balances on the body.

Key features:

  • Staff rolls over arms, shoulders, back, neck, and chest

  • More about smooth flow than speed

  • Uses body positioning and momentum instead of constant gripping

  • Creates an illusion that the staff is “floating” or moving on its own

Think: slow rolling, body rolls, and continuous dance-like motion.
