Funky flame colour? 6 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello fire fanatics. I once heard of a guy who knew this dude who had a mate that would fire breath in different colours of flames. Does anyone know how this is possible or even if it is. I am also very interested in if it is possible to breath with a flamable gas. I'm not trying to get into chroming but the lack of residue from a gas fire breath could be good for indoors use if possible. Well thanks if anyone has any input. love and light. Bright, burning light.

hey ulrik,
was reading about fuel and saw something that made me think of this post, dont know if it will help you but this is an exerpt from the page about changing fuel color:

Alcohol, a.k.a. denatured alcohol, methylated spirits, meths: Alcohol fuels are usually ethanol with methanol, acetone, gasoline, or other denaturing agents added. The denaturing agents provide odor and toxicity to discourage consumption of the fuel, and may lower the cost and adjust burning and vaporization properties for industrial reasons. Denatured alcohols can be up to 95% ethanol, or as little as 50%. An MSDS sheet of chemical can indicate the exact mixture. The fuel burns fairly hot, and is volatile, meaning it readily releases flammable vapors. The flame is blue to orange, depending on methanol content, and fairly dim. However, when mixed with chemicals such as lithium chloride, copper chloride and boric acid, various colors of flame can be created. Lithium compounds produce pinks, copper compounds produce greens and blues, and boric acid produces green. Other chemicals may produce other colors, and performers often experiment with various choices. Use of chemicals like these may produce some toxic vapors, and have a tendency to destroy wicks

hope this helps

Yeah heard to boric acid (not sure on spelling) mixed in with firelight or similar fuel does make it go greenish.
Looks cool. For a little while. Then the orange pure fire flame colour is the best really

This might not help you directly with breathing fire, but I think it will give you some ideas as what you could use to breath different colours... (go down to the table)

Sorry for the Thread Hijack, but on the topic of different flames... how would one create a fuel that would give off a silver/white flame? The above website says Aluminum, Titanium and Magnesium do this job, but would I have to mix it into a nitrate or chloride first before mixing it with Metho??
Any help would be greatly appreciated as its been troubling me for a little while now.

Today I had a shot at mixing Potassium Nitrate with Metho (as it says on the page from "Home of Poi") and it didn't work. I'm not exactly sure why, But I have a slight feeling that it might work with Shellite because its predominantly ethanol rather then methanol.
I am hopefully going to give it a shot Friday afternoon, I'll let you know what I find.
