Review: The Gold Coast Busking Competition
| 10 May 2010

So what makes a great busker?
- Audience Interaction
- Unique and Entertaining Skill Set
- A Cool or Kooky Costume
- Plenty of Self Confidence
- And a Bit of Humour.
Being good at something, or even really great at something only takes you half the distance, and it is all the other points that make a truly entertaining show.
We had a huge turn out for the first event of it's kind on the Gold Coast, and we can happily say it was a huge success. Everyone learnt a lot from the day, buskers and organisers alike. Many of the buskers were braving it all for the first time out in the public and they all did a great job. It's no small feat to stand out in the open as a huge group of people gather around to be entertained. So BIG round of applause for all of you who did it, and we hope to see you all again next year.
For those not doing this for the first time, but rather doing this for a living, there is plenty to be learnt. They hold the audience in their mind the whole time, making sure they are never excluded from the performance, and never ever bored. The audience is NUMBER ONE. They are purely concerned for the audience's experience. And they know how to ensure it is a good one.
The performer that most fit this description took out the first prize of $1000 cash, kindly gifted by the Currumbin RSL.
1st Prize
Terry the Great
Terry has been entertaining since the age of 12, and has continued to do so his entire life. He is an entertainer, and certainly is very entertaining. He sports a huge range of unique and very skillful talents, including juggling up to 7 balls, 5 clubs, flaming clubs, 3 diabolos and all the antics in between.
The Audience choice Award of $250 cash, again from the Currumbin RSL
The Darkside Dance Crew
A group of 4 teenagers busting out some wicked dance moves. They pull the crowds and had them cheering everytime to danced.
2nd Prize of $250 Cash thanks once more to the Currumbin RSL
Calm-In
Another group of 4, but this time making music that just made you smile. Violin's, Cello and Sax combined to make truly great music.
Was also had 2 x "Threeworlds Awesome Awards" of $100 gift vouchers to spend at Threeworlds
AARAN
The kid with all the moves. At 10 years old, this kid has potential. With dance moves that flowed into one handed handstands in to side flips and more, the audience was blown away.
&
The Tumbing Sisters
A flipping awesome duo! Beautiful costumes and plain impressive athletic ability these girls kept the crowd gathered around as they flipped up and down their matts.
The Up and Coming Awards of $100 & $50 Threeworlds Vouchers went to
Soul Sisters
A young female duo that won the crowds hearts with sweet voices and lots of smiles.
&
Rylie
Another young talent, with an original sound.
Rylie also won the IntheBin Musician's Award scoring herself a free Music Video produced by Jed Cahill from IntheBin!

Soul consciousness is like a light in a dark room.
Switch it on and all the worries of the world disappear. There is so much power and freedom in remembering that we are all non-physical beings living out our lives inside these bodies on the planet earth.
To really feel soul consciousness takes a little practice. If you are keen to try, click read more for a simple exercise.
Pixel Poi
| 12 January 2010
Ok, this is so awesome! Only at Woodford a couple of us were talking out the front of the stall, playing with the new glow poi and fantisising of the future. We thought of OLED screens embeded in poi, that would play videos as you twirled around. I think we need to wait a few more weeks before someone invents that, but in the mean time, this is soooo cool. We will let you know when the makers of these fine instruments start selling to the public. :)
Woodford Folk Festival
| 02 January 2010
What an epic event. Over 100,000 people pass through the gates of this all time awesome festival to take part in music, circus, fire, art and more.
The word that best sums up Woodford for me is colourful. Threeworlds had a presense again this year and we had heaps of drum jams, with the shop FULL of people and spilling out onto the street. Lots of fun juggling too as young kids discovered the fun of diabolo and devilstix. All in all a really great time.
